Performance Assessment and Benchmarking of Controls
2001 - 2004

Consortium Members

Industrial Control Centre (ICC), Strathclyde University, UK

ICC was formed in 1981 as a University centre of excellence in the theory and applications of control systems engineering.  Benchmarking is one of the Centre's current research themes of direct relevance to this project.

The techniques developed in the Centre have been used in a number of industrial sectors. The largest sector exploiting the research is that of the process industries. Industrial projects in this sector have included:

Other sectors benefiting from the work of the Centre include the power generation and power transmission sectors, which have been very excited by the benchmarking work.

BASF is active throughout the world. The focus of its business is its home market of Europe, but the contribution from the American and Asian markets is growing.

Centro Elettrotecnico Sperimentale Italiano Giacinto Motta SpA (CESI), Italy

Established in 1956, CESI is widely present in over 35 countries in the world.

CESI has been a market leader in electrical power system studies and testing and certification of electromechanical equipment offering the services of its widely reputed technicians to electrical utilities, electromechanical and electronic manufacturers, large-scale users of electric power.

The 'Networks and Plants Automation Group', now part of CESI 'Transmission and Distribution Networks Business Unit', is directly involved in the project. The group collects wide experience on automation systems in Energy Production, Transport and Distribution applications. They co-ordinated, via large R&D projects, the introduction of innovative information technologies within several classes of ENEL automation systems in the above fields.
